How to Schedule Email Follow-Ups

I’ve been online now for fourteen years. Over time I’ve seen a direct correlation between the increase in email volume users receive and the time it takes for them to reply, if at all. Duh, right?

Truth is, it’s far more difficult now to punch through the clutter than it was even two years ago. How do you followup on email that you send to co-workers, customers, prospects etc.? Most of the time it takes more than one touch. Here’s a great and free solution I found that allows me to schedule ticklers for specific email messages I send.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could schedule an alert that would be sent to you at a future date and time, via SMS text message to your cell phone and/or email, that included a memory jog, such as the original message you sent to someone?

iwantsandy.com is that solution. When you sign up they assign you a unique email address. Add it to your BlackBerry’s address book under “Sandy Reminder” and off you go. In Outlook or any email client, after you send an email message, go into your Sent Items folder and Forward a copy of the message to your Sandy address. In the Body of your message (above the original message body) in the first line of text, put your commands in plain English:

“Remind me in two weeks to tickle Jim about this.” (omit the quotes)

Sandy will immediately email you back to let you know she received it and has scheduled the follow-up. Two weeks from the time you sent it, Sandy will send you an email (and a text message if you wish) that includes you original instructions to yourself about what to do with it, along with the original email you sent. It’s an easy way to track communications so nothing falls through the cracks. People will marvel at your newfound memory!

How do you normally follow-up?
